About Me

My name is Juan José Saavedra, a 17-year-old Colombian golfer with a deep passion for academics and athletics. I began playing golf at age four, introduced to the sport by a coach at my school. By the age of seven, I was competing in local tournaments, and since then, I have had the privilege of representing Colombia in multiple events across South America and the United States. I am a junior at The Crenshaw Academy in Gotha, Florida, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 4.13 (3.78 unweighted). My dream is to attend a university with a strong academic program and a competitive golf team—a place where I can grow as a student and athlete while contributing to the team’s success. I am dedicated, disciplined, and self-motivated. My daily routine includes four hours of academic work and four and a half hours of golf practice, five days a week, alongside weekend tournaments. I value teamwork, respect, and supporting others, both on and off the course. My goal is to join a collegiate golf program under the guidance of a supportive coach, where I can push myself to achieve my personal and professional goals.

Personal Interests

My family is my biggest support system, providing unwavering encouragement throughout my journey. Their support has been instrumental in my achievements. Outside of golf, I enjoy learning new skills. I have taught myself to play guitar, drums, piano, and saxophone, and I am currently learning Italian—a rewarding challenge. I also value connecting with other athletes, sharing experiences, and building a supportive community.

My Game

Golf is a mirror of life—challenging, imperfect, and rewarding. It pushes me to grow through discipline, resilience, and self-awareness, which is why I love this sport. As a highly competitive golfer, I strive to improve every aspect of my game: technical skills, physical conditioning, and mental toughness. My greatest strength is my iron play, particularly with mid-irons, where I excel even under pressure. I’m creative around the greens, with a strong short game and reliable putting. My driving distance exceeds the junior average, giving me an edge off the tee. Over the past year, I have prioritized mental training, treating it like a muscle that needs to be developed and strengthened. This focus has improved my decision-making and consistency during rounds. I have also enhanced my physical fitness with the guidance of a fitness and mental coach, gaining power, stamina, and consistency. I am committed to a competitive tournament schedule, including national and international events, to prepare for collegiate golf. With my coaches’ support, I am committed to achieving the level necessary to compete at the highest level.

It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation for Juan Saavedra, a remarkable student at Crenshaw Academy. Juan, who joins us from Colombia, has consistently demonstrated excellence in both his academics and his character. Living away from home as a young student can be challenging, yet Juan approaches this with maturity, independence, and resilience. He has become a respected member of our school community, not only because of his academic achievements, but also due to his genuine kindness and strong sense of responsibility.
